Iron is an essential mineral in our body. Iron has many important functions in the human body. Iron stores oxygen in muscles. When there is a lack of iron in the body, many parts of the human body are affected.

Iron deficiency occurs when there is very little iron in the body. The most common nutrition deficiency is iron deficiency. Iron deficiency is very dangerous for human health. You have to be sincere about iron deficiency. It causes many harmful effects to your body. It causes harm to daily activity of human. It affects on the brain also. Your normal activity and mental activity are affected very much. In pregnancy women need much care. If you have iron deficiency in pregnancy then there are possibilities to have a complication with baby. It affects the memory of teenagers and physical abilities of adults. Increased iron needs and decreased absorption of iron are the causes of iron deficiency in the human body.

Children and pregnant women need more iron than others. Because for fast growth children need more iron. If they do not get that much iron from their daily meal or diet, they will suffer from iron deficiency. On the other hand, pregnant women need more iron. Besides having iron rich food, they should take iron tablets. If you lose blood then you will need more iron. Losing blood causes iron deficiency. These were the causes of increasing the need of iron in the human body. Iron deficiency also occurs due to the lack of taking enough iron from the diet. Vegetarian people do not get iron from meat and fish. So they cannot absorb iron from these sources. Non vegetarian people should also take iron from vegetable sources besides meat and fish sources.

The human body can meet the proper amount of iron needed. There are many sources of iron such as vitamin C containing food, some beans, fortified cereals, spinach, etc. Having some foods can reduce iron in your body such as tea, coffee, dairy milk, etc. Calcium and some medicines also decrease the amount of iron in your body.

Symptoms of iron deficiency are mostly visible to children and pregnant women. The symptoms include weakness, irritability, tiredness, brittle nails, decreased physical capabilities; susceptibility to infection, etc. Iron deficiency also causes difficulty in maintaining body temperature. The severe stage of iron deficiency is anemia. To recover anemia, you have to take iron pills for several months.


  The test of red blood cells in your body can detect whether you have iron deficiency or not. If the checkup result comes out positive, do not worry. The treatment is very easy. According to your health, age and level of deficiency, doctor will prescribe you iron supplements or suggest you to change your diet. The amount of iron needed for male is 8 mg/day, the female is 18mg/day, children are 11 mg/day and pregnant women is 27mg/day. A healthy diet which includes fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, egg, fat free milk, nuts, etc. can simply protect you from iron deficiency.
